This Chester County Armory sale listing is for a unicorn in the NFA Transferable Machine Gun world….an almost all-Russian AK-104 7.62x39mm select-fire machine gun that is fully transferable.
This spectacular model was meticulously crafted by famed AK gunsmith Mike Friend of Firing Line in Wyandotte, OK using a rare, original Russian AK-104 parts kit and an NFA transferable Hard Times Armory converted AKM Type 47S NFA registered receiver. The NFA registered receiver is the only part of this weapon that was not originally made in Russia by Izhmash.
The AK-104 is a carbine variant of the AK-103. It sports a 12.4″ Russian factory barrel that includes an original muzzle booster for enhanced reliability in a shorter format. The selector lever is located on the right side of the receiver and has three settings: a fully up, unmarked safe setting that disables the trigger and physically blocks the charging handle; the middle position (marked “АВ”) enables fully automatic fire, and the lowest position (“ОД”) allows the weapon to fire in a semi-automatic mode. This model also features an AK-104 correct orginial factory Russian left side folding stock and stock catch in the receiver, as well as the correct dove-tail optic rail on the left hand side of the receiver. The stock still proudly displays its original Russian factory inspection marks in white.
Mike Friend’s impressive work on this model has replicated the receiver markings exactly as what would be expected on a true Russian weapon, right down to the factory markings and correct rivet pattern. (The registered receiver also retains its legally-required original manufacturer and importation markings, as well). Mechanically, this approximately 600 rounds per minute machine gun runs flawlessly, just like one would expect an AK machine gun to fire. It has only been fired a limited number of times since its build was completed at Firing Line. The internal mechanisms show very little wear. The bolt face is clean and strong. The bore is bright and shiny with crisp, clean, well-delineated rifling. The bolt assembly itself notes no wear marking whatsoever in the finished bolt.
Cosmetically, this amazing weapon is also in like-new condition, with only limited handling marks noted in the dark matte black finish. The selector lever engagement does note the tell-tale “AK line” from operation, but apart from that, the finish is completely intact on all other areas of the weapon. The original Russian polymer furniture notes some minor surface handling marks in the polymer finish, but nothing that is more than cosmetic in nature.
AK-104 parts kit haven’t been allowed to be imported into the US in quite some time, and likely never will be again, so this is an excellent investment opportunity for a transferable machine gun that is sure to greatly appreciate in value. This transferable machine gun is currently available for purchase on an eForm capable Form 3 that lists “Hard Times Armory” as the manufacturer and “AKM-47S” as the model.
