This Chester County Armory listing is for a fantastic condition Smith & Wesson Model 76 9x19mm Parabellum transferable, C&R eligible, submachine gun.
The Model 76 SMG was originally created by Smith & Wesson engineers in 1967 by basically reverse engineering the renowned Swedish K submachine gun. It was developed specifically to fill an urgent need to supply US Navy Seals with a domestic-made, rugged and reliable SMG for use in Vietnam after Sweden refused any more sales of the Carl Gustaf m/45 to the US in the 1960’s over its objection of use in a war zone while Sweden was trying to remain a neutral country. This C&R eligible machine gun is in its original factory configuration, with folding stock, 8″ barrel, and original parkerized finish. It will come with one 36rd magazine.
This original S&W M76 SMG is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Mechanically, the weapon is outstanding with only minor wear markings noted on the metal-to-metal contact points of the bolt assembly and receiver tube. The bolt face remains clean and crisp. The trigger mechanism notes little wear and the bore remains bright and shiny with crisp, clean rifling. The metalwork is solidly intact, with no dents, dings, gouges, scratches, malformations, etc. This model has been test-fired and runs flawlessly with factory-grade, SAAMI spec 9mm NATO ammunition.
Cosmetically, the parkerization of the weapon is in overall excellent condition, with only minor handling marks observed in the original dark gray parkerization. Some minor finish wear is noted on the sling mounts and the hoods of the front sight. The black polymer furniture is in excellent condition with only minor handling marks observed in the gloss finish of the grips. The original fire selector switch displays minor markings in the receiver that are inherent to the operational design of the weapon.
This Smith and Wesson factory transferable machine gun is currently on a Form 3 for easy transfer. Due to it’s age, this model is Curio & Relic license eligible.
