This Chester County Armory listing is for a rare Vietnam-era Chinese Communist Type 56 7.62x39mm Amnesty Registered transferable AK-47 patterned machine gun.

Also known as an AK-56 (after combining the Type 56 designation with the Russian AK-47 name from which it was originally copied),  the Chinese Type 56 assault rifle was the most common and most recognizable weapon fielded by the Communist-backed North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. Rarely seen available in the US as fully transferable machine gun, this particular weapon is a true, Chinese factory-made Type 56 Assault rifle/ select-fire machine gun in 7.62x39mm. It was originally built in a Chinese Communist state arsenal factory, used by North Vietnamese forces, and then brought into the United States as a Vietnam War bring-back war trophy, From there, it was added to the National Firearms Act Registry in 1968 as part of the NFA machine gun amnesty registration period for machine guns.

Both mechanically and cosmetically, this is one of the nicest Amnesty Registered AK’s Chester County Armory has ever had the pleasure of offering for sale. This 16.3″ barreled AK features a milled receiver construction and all parts, including the furniture, appear original to the weapon.  This weapon was constructed in China State Arsenal Factory 366 located in the Hei Long Jiang Province, as designated by the number 66 inside a triangle that is observed on the left side of the receiver, adjacent to the factory serial number. All observed individual part numbers on this weapon appear to properly match the original receiver serial number.

While the weapon has most certainly been battlefield-used, the metalwork notes only cosmetic handling marks. The exterior parkerization is worn at spots, but with no corrosion or rust noted and only minor pitting marks from previous use. The internals, including the bore and chamber, remain solid and intact, with only moderate wear from firing observed. The internals are solid, and there are no major dings, dents, cracks, etc. The wood furniture notes minor dings and scratches, but all marks are only cosmetic in nature.  Ironically enough, many collectors today pay large amounts of money to have their weapons custom Cerakoted to re-create the battlefield worn condition that this weapon so proudly displays already.

This spectacular war-time trophy transferable machine gun is currently on an eForm capable  Form 3 that lists “Chi Comm” as the manufacturer and “AK-47” as the model.
